The open water programme is what we are all about. From April/May we hit a selection of beaches mainly in Fingal but with regular visits to Sandycove, the 40 ft and Killiney.

Excluding dedicated courses such as Beach Lifeguard we normally have one swim a week during May increasing to two a week in June. In July and August we step things up and can have any number of swims but it normally is three or four a week in addition to any Lifeguard activity we have.

Open water is open to all swimmers with us and there are a wide range of awards we do ranging from Assistant beach lifesaver, Rookie, Bronze cross, silver cross and Beach Lifeguard

What you need

You must have a brightly coloured swim cap and we always suggest old runners or booties. It is not necessary to have a wetsuit although over time you will find that one can be handy

- start with a secondhand one and dont be misled that there is anything wrong with Dunnes/Lild ones - as a teenager you will only get a season or two out of it so don't get a rolls royce one until you are finished growing.

We provide all the safety gear, first aid and the like but we will expect that you assist with racking & packing gear
