Sthoee14 Lifeguards Dublin

a voluntary Lifeguard unit affiliated to Lifesavers, RLSS

our Rookie V.I.P. area

Rookie is where is all starts, in this area you can learn all about the rookie programme, the team and the awards.

The Rookie Programme

Whats in it?
The Rookie programme contains just about everything a new lifesaver needs. The programme contains modules in;

- Lifesaving & Personal Safety
- Communications Personal Safety
- Equipment such as rescue tubes, snorkelling and surf ski
- Lifesupport and First Aid

You dont need any equipment - we will supply everything . Just bring your swimming gear and leave all your valuables at home

How old do I have to be ?
Our youngest are normally about 8 or so. You must be able to swim at least two lengths without stopping.
You do not need to be a competition swimmer or even "very good" as you will improve over time with us. What you do need to be is willing to have a good time and a bit of a laugh. Our crack trainers will show you everything you need to know.

Whats next ?
Normally you will move onto Lifesaving 1,2 & 3 but in some circumstances Rookie can be a platform onto the Bronze Medallion and the other Senior awards.

Can rookies do open water? ?
Yes, the whole open water programme is open to you including all the beach trips, the Ireland's eye day, dawn swim and BBQs. There are even some special Rookie lifesaver sessions where you can spend time with the lifeguards and learn new skills.
